The system Administrator / Vertica DBA will be responsible to manage Vertica cluster environments in handling all Vertica environment builds, including design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring & operations. Individual must have thorough understanding of Vertica physical & logical architecture, excellent SQL skills, experience in programming/scripting, Data Modelling, Database system Design, implementation, optimize and maintain efficient transactional and analytical data models.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Designing, building, installing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining high-volume, large database systems.
• Designing and Implementing systems, policies and procedures for backups/Disaster recovery and Business continuity configurations.
• Work with system security teams in Implementing data security standards.
• Database Tuning and Performance monitoring of Applications.
• Design Logical/Physical Data Models in both data ware house and operational environments.
• Work closely with Data Architect in physical design and implementation of the Data Structures on the Database, which includes providing physical names, primary keys, primary indexes and volumetric’s of the data.
• Work closely with the technical leads to provide guidance about database technology and distributed database deployment best practices
• Automation of database monitoring and alerting.
• Improve operational process and implement standard procedures.
• Capacity planning, growth and database budget planning.
• Implementation of SSL encryption and security audit standards, and end to end system review for compliance.
• Implementation of Resource Pool Management, password policies, encryption policies and account policies on environments.
• Identify and manage metadata and data modeling quality control procedures provide facilitation and data analysis support to various data governance working groups.
• Manage data, maintain data integrity, using effective utility and disk management procedures.
• Use knowledge and expertise of existing database environments to make recommendations for opportunities to share data and/or reduce data redundancies.
• Support the function of data migration across database solutions within the organization.
• Work with Operations to manage database hardware infrastructure.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
• Stay at the leading edge of trends and technologies in the database field and related technologies.

Skills Required:

• Vertica Database Administration and Engineering skills with a keen interest in how things work.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Expertise in Vertica Physical and Logical Architecture.
• Excellent query writing skills and debugging problematic queries.
• Experience in optimization techniques such as projections and partitioning desired
• Understanding of Data Concepts (ETL, data structures, metadata and workflow management).
• Understanding of Linux Operating System, Commands, Tracing and Performance tools.
• Skilled in programming / scripting to build UDF/UDX and orchestration of integration processes (PL/SQL, Java, Java Scripts, Shell & Batch Scripting, UNIX, Python, bash, C/C++).
• Knowledge on reporting and data modelling tools – Minitab, SPSS, R, Excel Add-in,
SSRS and Erwin.
• Understanding and ability to participate in all phases of the SDLC including requirements gathering, business analysis, configuration management and quality control desired.
• knowledge of physical and logical database design.
• knowledge in schema design principles with demonstrated aptitude to apply best practices for scalable designs.
• Knowledge of Subversion, Git or other source code version control and repository tools.

Education: “Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, or equivalent, with related experience in data analytics.”
